Good idea, but IF there is NO bus service to/from or decent connections to your work etc its useless. Hopeful there will promote the Megariders...

If you are thinking about catching the bus, here are 10 reasons why you certainly should -

* It could help save you money - ever thought about how much you REALLY spend on parking, fuel and monthly car costs? Switching to the bus can save you money
* You can help save the planet - catching the bus means less traffic, less pollution and a happier environment
* It could be less stressful - driving can be stressful, between negotiating busy traffic, dealing with other drivers and finding somewhere to park
* Forget about parking tickets - catching the bus means no parking tickets or rushing back when the parking meter is about to run out!
* More free "me" time - get things done on the bus, like texting, reading or working. You'll free up lots of spare time during the rest of the day
* Relax and daydream - without the hassle of driving you can sit back, relax and let your mind wander
* There's plenty of people watching to enjoy - its everyone's favourite pastime!
* It could be better for your health - a short walk to the bus stop and back each day can do you the world of good
* You might meet someone nice - while on board you can chat to other passengers. You might even meet your future partner, you just never know...
* Use your time to train your brain - crosswords and puzzles help pass the journey, and keep your brain active!
That is definitely worth the price of a ticket!

Bluestar are also taking part, they aren't actually doing anything special, they say they have special fares on their new mobile app which are actually the same price as normal. They will also have someone in Bournemouth Square, when they don't run anywhere near Bournemouth. They will also promote the week on social networking sites such as facebook and twitter.

Biggest waste of time ever.

Here's their website.

I dont think this will work either, many areas dont have a decent network to allow commuters or other car users to use the bus network. How many people would take the bus to the train station? of course that would need joined up thinking.

I see First are not taking part, why is that?

I wonder if something similar is up on Wilts and Dorset's site given they are pretty much one company now...

That must have just gone up today, its a shame all there have done is clamp it on to a charity, I cant see nothing about promoting or going out an about in the towns and cities to grabs people attentions.

None of the companies will be out ( this goes for all ) are not out and about on Saturday, that would have been prime target to grab people.

I should not have laughed at the following:

http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/scotland_east/about_us/catch_the_bus_week/

http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/glasgow/about_us/catch_the_bus_week/

We will donate £1 to Macmillan Cancer Support for every extra registered bus journey taken on our buses during 'Catch the Bus Week' from Monday 29 April to Sunday 5 May. All of our bus companies in the UK are supporting the campaign so no matter where you are you can support us to raise up to £20,000 for Macmillan, FirstGroup's national charity partner.

So Not much will be raised.

Ah, didn't think to check the More Bus site but yeah it's exactly the same apart from the prices are different to Bluestar. They still aren't promotional prices though, just the normal prices for the mobile app.

Stagecoach South and East Sussex appear to be doing nothing at all, the actual link off the Catch the Bus website says to click down onto your location, but when you end up on the divisions homepage - there isnt anything about it.

Brighton and Hove are just promoting their tickets and running 1 competition to win a 7 day ticket.

Metrobus are doing an offer in which if you register for a Key card, you get a free 1 day ticket.

It still better than First.

What a poor, very poor effort by many. Many of the companies should be going out everyday highlight how to use the bus or visiting big employers to drum up new users etc.

Speaking on local radio perhaps?

I'd laugh my moobs off if the entire nations car users decided to use the bus to work (where a suitable service permits). The nation would be at a stand still.

Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire is participating http://www.stagecoachbus.com/Catch the Bus Week 2013.aspx

Also Stagecoach Merseyside.

Although I have to say promotion is poor. I have not heard anything on local radio BBC Cumbria or in last weeks local paper and found this event by accident at the week-end whilst searching Dick Gilberts events page http://www.skylineaviation.co.uk/buses/events.html which eventually took me to the North East Bus and Coach Show http://www.nebpt.co.uk/index.asp?page=3&event=418 which is sponsored by Go North East who had it in the front page of their website.

In most case, there is none.

Really? I suspect an awful lot of people could commute to work by bus if they tried. Not everyone, but a lot.

This "week" does seem to be very hit and miss as to whether companies take part.

I remember a few years ago Blazefield companies had a "no fares day" as part of a similar promotion (on a weekend) - it certainly speeded up boarding and resulted in some busy buses.

Haven't seen anything about any companies in West Yorkshire doing anything this time.

Developing better maps, information brochures, and a clearer presentation about the various ticket options are things that most of the big bus companies could do an awful lot better than they do....

Even Stagecoach, who as an operator, are pretty excellent, don't do these things anywhere near as well as they ought (the maps and ticket choices things in particular). And the less said about First (who as an operator, are not pretty excellent) the better...
