It seems the Cathedrals Express that was due to run from London Victoria to Cardiff has been postponed due to clearance issues for the Duchess of Sutherland even though she was able to go through most of the route earlier this year??

things change gauge wise. Especially when you are doing electrification works.

I was not aware that things could change that much within 4 months which was the last time that the Duchess of Sutherland steamed along the route through Ascot/Bracknell through either too or from Reading?

they can - consider the kind of structures and work involved in electrification and how they might change the gauge envelope.

it might be something as small as a change to the track level under a bridge after tamping or something major like a new structure built next to the track

Seeing as NR knew for a while that Duchess would be hauling this train and the train on 03/09, why wasn't she re-gauged?

who knows - perhaps there were more important things to attend to or perhaps the change occurred at the last minute.

Maybe, but eventually she will have to be re-guaged.

I see Tornado has had an outing to Bristol Temple Meads and back today :)

How do they re-guage a large metal steam engine? I don't actually know how gauging is done?
