Hi all,

Today's VOSA Bus Service registrations for the Western Traffic Area stretch to 82 entries and include a number of entries for Plymouth Citybus. Among these PCB entries are what appear to be a few newly created depot staff shuttles.

The changes, due to take effect 04-Sep-2016, can be summarised as follows:

New Services
81 PCB Milehouse - Plymstock - Lipson Vale - PCB Milehouse
82 PCB Milehouse - Derriford - Southway - PCB Milehouse
83 PCB Milehouse - West Park - Kings Tamerton - PCB Milehouse
84 PCB Milehouse - Southway - Kings Tamerton - PCB Milehouse
85 PCB Milehouse - Lipson - Plymstock - PCB Milehouse

Timetable Changes
5, 5A St. Budeaux - Elburton / Staddiscombe
12 Plymouth City Centre - Launceston
21, 21A St. Budeaux - Plympton
27, 27A, 27B Plymouth City Centre - Derriford Hospital
33 City Centre - Keyham - Ford - City Centre
34, 34A, 34B Plymouth City Centre - Estover
35, 35A Plymouth City Centre - Ham
40, 41 Plymouth City Centre - Southway
45, 46A, 46B Plymouth City Centre - Tavistock
74 Liskeard - Callington

Route and Timetable Changes
11, 11A Plymouth City Centre - Liskeard
11A Liskeard - Padstow
12A Plymouth City Centre - Downgate
12B Launceston - Bude
32 Plymouth City Centre - Torpoint Ferry
43 Derriford Hospital - Ernesettle
44 Plymouth City Centre - Whitleigh
50, 50A Derriford Hospital - Derriford Hospital
70, 70A, 70B Plymouth City Centre - Cremyll
71 Plymouth City Centre - Liskeard
73, 73A Liskeard - Polperro

Quite a lot to pick through. My thoughts:

- interesting to see Service 43 appear once again as a renumbering of the present Service 50: IIRC service 43 used to be Plymouth City Centre - Ernesettle but was merged with Service 50 (Derriford Hospital - City Centre) to give the through service which presently exists as Service 50. However the separate registration for Service 50, together with the addition of a Service 50A, suggests to me that Service 50 is to be converted into a circular route with, say, Service 50 going a clockwise route and the 50A doing the anticlockwise route. Assuming this is so I would guess that the new 50 / 50A will run along the present route between Derriford Hospital, City Centre and Ernesettle with the addition of running between Ernesettle and Derriford Hospital along Budshead Road, ie:

50: Derriford Hospital - City Centre - St. Budeaux - Ernesettle - Whitleigh (Budshead Road) - Derriford Hospital
50A: Derriford Hospital - Whitleigh (Budshead Road) - Ernesettle - St. Budeaux - City Centre - Derriford Hospital

- I wonder what is afoot with Services 11 & 11A. The start and finish points look the same. The 12 also looks interesting. As things stand there are only schoolday journeys through Downgate so perhaps the addition of further journeys through there.

- For the registration on the Tavistock services I presume the 45 service number is a typo and should be Service 46.

- Interesting that Services 5 & 5A appear again: these were only last changed on 10th January this year.

Any more thoughts?

HTIOI,
Dave

Why can't they just leave the 5/5A alone. They change it multiple times per year, and far too many other routes far too often, and don't give them a chance to bed in.

It confuses people, especially the old dears in Plymouth who from experience only go by route numbers, and often end up on the wrong bus

The current 5A journeys that only run from Royal Parade - Elburton are having timeing issues so that maybe the change this time.

The 5/5A were last changed on 3 July (frequency increase/omitting Stanborough Rd in Plymstock and extension of 5 to Saltash Oaklands Green x20min).

So the 43 is going every 12mins and that is the reason for the route number change.
The 50 is not a circular but runs Derriford to Derriford and returns to St Budeaux the same way that it arrived.
The 5/5A is only to sort out the running times on the 5A
Timetables now available on Traveline

When I used to visit Plymouth regularly twenty years ago the 43 to Ernesettle was Plymouth Corporation's most frequent route!
