Has anyone else noticed how much more expensive some of this year's charter trains are, especially the steam services. I know things have gone up, but some I have seen seem a huge increase.

SRPS Railtours are pretty good this year.

£79 for a full day steam tour (Glenrothes - Inverness), £43 for a morning/afternoon steam tour ("Forth Circle")

£62 for the diesel tours that have been announced so far. So, you could do North Berwick - Llandudno for £62 that's about a third cheaper than the Kirknewton (last pick up) to Chester (first stop) fare! Or, if you like, North Berwick to Llandudno for just under half price!

*These views are my own, and may not represent those of SRPS Railtours (Just in case)

One of the biggest rises will be Steam Dreams tours since they appear to have done away with standard class entirely. The cheapest option will be what used to be super standard (free tea and coffee) at £99.

Can't say I've noticed a major hike other than a few quid (as usual). As Scotsman says the SRPS tours are, in the main, £62 this year - if my memory's correct they were £59 last year so hardly a major hike. With regard to steam, I'm booked on a Euston-Carlisle trip tomorrow with preserved electric 86259 'Les Ross' and 45305, and it's £69 which is good value in my view and the same as what I paid for trip over the S&C last year. Admittedly this is among the cheaper steam tours. One other I've noticed is Pathfinder's annual Mazey Day tour has increased from £69 to £75 this year, hardly surprising though as it's been £69 for the past 3 or 4 years.

When you consider the costs and risks involved these prices don't seem too over the top, the SRPS prices in particular being very reasonable.

I hadn't actually noticed that rise - seems to be a £14 increase for a tablecloth and free tea/coffee. Sounds like Steam Dreams are moving away from the 'cheap and cheerful' standard option leaving RTC to concentrate on that.
