Afternoon,

Would anyone happen to have details of the Chiltern 68 diagrams for New Year's Day 2025?

I'm guessing it won't just be the normal weekday diagrams due to it being a Bank Holiday. However, the WCML is shut between Milton Keynes and Northampton that day, so you'd have thought there would be a degree of strengthening going on.

Thanks in advance.

I feel like they try and use them as little as possible, so bank holidays seem a sure bet for them having minimal work, especially as they tend to simply triple their DMUs for busy services.

Have you tried sending Chiltern a tweet at a quiet hour, just to perhaps enquire if they have plans to run them? :)

Much appreciated, thank you! Does look like a degree of strengthening is going on then.

I stand very much corrected, apologies.
I assumed their non-standardness and requirement for crew south of Banbury would prompt Chiltern to keep them in the sheds!

Chiltern are currently limited to the amount of 68-powered arrivals and departures at Marylebone they can operate each day so on Bank Holidays they often use them less if there is a Saturday or similar timetable in operation, unless service strengthening is required due to a block on another route such as the WCML or a major Wembley event is planned etc.

Are they more noisy than the diesel multiple units? If Chiltern take the mk5 and want to increase usage, that won’t go down well with the residents. Unless there’s something they can do to quieten the 68s?

Yes, much more noisy - clearly you haven't heard them if you have to ask! This subject has been discussed at length on various threads here. At some point you have to conclude that the needs of passengers using the railway must outweigh the concerns of people who live near the railway but don't use it themselves.

Did you manage to get one? :)

No, unfortunately my plans changed so I ended up not taking Chiltern. I instead took the first and last Avanti strike day services the next day, which resulted in a considerable rush but (just about) worked for my travel requirements.
