I will be changing at Clapham Junction on my way to East Croydon. The first leg of the journey from Southampton is covered by a paper Advance ticket, but I will use my 60+ Oyster card for the CLJ-ECR leg. Do I have to go over to Platform 17 at CLJ to touch in before boarding the train to East Croydon?

I'm hoping the answer is no, as it's a nuisance with bags, but there are no other on-platform readers at Clapham Junction.

Not really. Oyster 60+ has no cash value so you won’t be charged a maximum fare when you tap out at East Croydon.
