So I'm travelling from Weybridge to Newport (Wales) (and back) on Monday 13/7/2015. I'm a bit confused as to why NRE prices itinerary 1 as valid for an off-peak return (£81) but itinerary 2 as an anytime return (£193).

The return leg (15:30 onwards) seems to have no bearing on this.

Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

Itinerary 1

07:42 WYB BSK 08:26 (SWT)
08:47 BSK RDG 09:03 (FGW)
09:11 RDG NWP 10:31 (FGW)

Itinerary 2

07:57 WYB WOK 08:08 (SWT)
08:16 WOK BSK 08:38 (SWT)
08:47 BSK RDG 09:03 (FGW)
09:11 RDG NWP 10:31 (FGW)

I think this is because the 0816 Woking-Basingstoke arrives into Salisbury at 0920.

The restriction WW states "Not valid on trains timed to arrive Salisbury before 09:30" and this applies even if you are not going via Salisbury, though I do not think this consequence is intended.

Going off the journey restrictions for the Off Peak Return says it's not valid on trains that are timed to arrive into Salisbury before 0930, the 0816 Woking to Basingstoke is a Salisbury service timed to arrive at 0920. I think that's why it's not offered,

Sorry didn't realise Yorkie was typing

A quick look at the restriction details suggests that the latter itinerary falls foul of the "Not valid on trains timed to arrive Salisbury before 09:30" restriction, as the 0816 from Woking is the 0750 ex-Waterloo, due Salisbury at 0920.

Having said that, the restriction also says that it's not valid on trains timed to depart Waterloo after 0429 and before 0815, which all of the SWT services involved do (being the 0712, 0720 and 0750 ex-Waterloo, respectively)...but WebTIS also shows the ticket as valid for the 0742.

I also noticed that, but I don't think that restriction is intended to apply for a journey via Reading.

As we know, but the general public are not told, there are 'public' restrictions (which themselves can be different in different sources) and then there are the 'electronic' encoding of the restrictions, which can be quite different!

Weybridge-Reading is £11.40 Anytime Return (Any Permitted route, no time restrictions).
Reading-Newport is £70.50 Off Peak Return (SVR), valid after 0835 from Reading.
Just get two tickets (£81.90) to avoid problems.
