I was at Leeds earlier and I noticed alot of smoke coming out of either the 333 or 158
What could be the cause of this

Probably the 158. Looks to have a bit of a blue tinge to it so likely burning oil, which could be down to a whole load of reasons within the engine itself

More likely to be the auxiliary heater rather than the engine, although obviously it should be checked out.

I saw something similar with a 158 in Platform 1 at York last week. The unit was switched off and there was that much smoke that I sought out a member of platform staff. By the time I'd done that and we'd gone to have a look, the smoke had cleared. The staff member said it wasn't that uncommon and thought it was to do with the heaters.

I would definitely say it’s the Aux Heaters of the 158.

If it was the 333 then the fire brigade would be required!

I noticed this on the 01/10/19 (16:18 Manchester Victoria train) at Leeds - the 2-car 158 was coupled to a single 153 (Manchester end). Not long after the 158 turned on, blue smoke came from underneath one of the coaches.

I was waiting for the 16:45 to London Kings Cross.

I DM'd Northern a photo - I think they got it.

The auxiliary heaters on most Sprinters are indeed made by Webasto, but not on the 158s.
