It seems to me that 1 year in real life = 3 railway years. So, they have not even started driver training and I presume that this means that we will have to soldier on with 5 car IET’s running packed London services. Goodness knows why the 175’s were not sent straight to GWR at Plymouth as soon as TFW were done with them? They must have been left lying around dormant for about 3 years - what a waste.

There was a plan to begin training in June, but that is now looking less likely.
This thread has been running for over 8 months, and although sign off was protracted, you would have thought that as part of plan to have them, some sort of idea of how to get drivers trained would be formulated, so could get going as soon as possible.

Does rather seem daft got to wait another 3-4 months after sign off to even start training, that is start of training, not the point when there is sufficient to allow use on couple of selected diagrams. It is not like they need to wait for them to be tested and commissioned as new builds.

Theres is a training plan for drivers and guards, but it keeps being pushed to the right due to the delays in other aspects of the project, not least unit readiness.

Having everything signed off is only part of the jigsaw. It's unit readiness that is the missing piece at present.
And the ability to keep it available for training/traffic, needing artisans trained, maintenance procedures deliverable, supply chain working, contingencies (e.g. failure/recovery) deliverable, etc..

Anyone know the identity of the two most visible at Wolverton from the main entrance aligned behind the Kia dealership? First is 107 but not sure about the other?

After this weeks moves I now make that

4 units at LA - 002/007/009/114
4 Units at Wolverton - 001/003/107/108
19 units at Ely 004*/005*/006*/008*/010/011
101*/102/103/104/105/106/109*/110/111/112/113/115*/116

* = units not in orginal fromation.

Correction and updates weclome.
Anyone know which 175s moved to wolverton today ?
175006 & 011
Does anyone in here know which units are where currently?

Also, what work is being done at Wolverton (or elsewhere)? Replacing the drivers' seats with high-backed ones with head rests? Repositioning some of the cab controls/equipment? Replacing the Transport for Wales data on the Train Management Systems / Passenger Information Systems with Great Western Railway (GWR) data? Anything in terms of GWR exterior decals / livery / interior trim?

I think this is the current locations

4 units at LA - 002/007/009/114
6 Units at Wolverton - 001/003/006*/011/107/108
17 units at Ely 004*/005*/008*/010
101*/102/103/104/105/106/109*/110/111/112/113/115*/116

* = units not in orginal fromation.

Am not clear if 006 was reformed into its orginal formation before leaving Ely or is still made up of 50706 + 79765

Updates welcome

In white and red still I assume?
No idea I'm afraid. I heard rumblings that the units will get a new vinyl for GWR life, however I'd also heard the opposite that they wouldn't be re done, so your guess is as good as mine!

Does anyone in here know anything about what's being done to the 175s at Wolverton?

Also, surely they'll be wrapped into Great Western Railway (GWR) dark green, as it would be a bad look for GWR if they were still in a completely different operator's colours (even worse than them still having First Great Western blue and pink on one or two 150s for until very recently for some reason).

As I’ve said before, I think simply covering the red on the cab and doors with GWR green vinyl would look fine.

Don’t think it’s that bad a look really. I think your average passenger wouldn’t really care and would just be glad GWR now have a few extra units. Certainly didn’t bother me when TFW took over from ATW and you still had 175s knocking about in the Arriva blue/green.

Mostly return from storage servicing. There are some cab mods to be done (new seat, repositioning of handsets etc.) but I don't think it's been finalised as to when/where these will take place.

Hopwood has referred to 'refurbishment' [at Wolverton] and I would be surprised if this does not include GWR colours internally including seat trim.
