Anyone know what this is doing at Selhurst on the back of a low loader?

Pic isnt the best as was on a train....

I saw this on the way to college in the siding. Thought it was one of Southern's 313's but when i returned in the afternoon it was gone!

Must be there for a partial repaint?

The two motor vehicley (DMSOs) are parked up at the southern end of Hornsey Depot, where they have been for two or three days. They are visible from passing trains, but too far to see which unit. They reminded me of seeing a picture of a two car 313 in operation on the (third rail) Croxley Green branch without its PTSO. I can't remember whether it was on this forum, but I'll add a link if I come across it...

As promised, here is a link to a picture of 313034 in service without its PTSO:http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/w/watford_west/index60.shtml. It is the fifth photo down on the page.

It is on the excellent Disused Stations site, but no comment is made about the odd formation of the 313. The location is Watford West station, which is planned to become part of the Metropolitan line Extension / Croxley link.

When the 313's retire off GN, the PTOS coaches will be refurbished and slotted into SN 313s. Which inturn will be rebranded TLK units and run via the core vice 700s, as everyone is moaning about them :D

034's PTS was augmented in the Networker test bed when on AC Trials, 316999 was based at CC during the testing, she was stabled there along with 303999( the only 303 to recieve NSE)

71242 is back on the road, seen heading north through Crystal Palace this evening.

Ouch, that junction again. I hope it doesn't receive the 'fame' and attention that the Southern 377 vehicle from the Eastbourne fire did when it managed to get stuck there or around there!

Not looking good for the PTOS

I understand that the carriage in question fell off jacks at the depot. As the unit belongs to Great Northern and is due for replacement, it's possible that the leasing company isn't sure that the cost of repairs are worth it.

I can't help but wonder about the destination of that lorry. Hornsey, or somewhere else?

What would happen with the driving coaches if (hypothetically or otherwise) the PTOS is being taken for scrap?

Presumably they'd either become christmas trees, or they'd just be stripped of parts and also scrapped

It wouldn't stop endless posts about how they should be used on Lymington or Hove shuttles... or even the IOW, despite the many many reasons that would be stupid!

It's tricky though, as a little two car unit would be perfect for those runs. You and I know it isn't as easy as that. But to Johnny rail user, I can see why it must be annoying, standing against the glass as two perfectly useable cars sit there unused. I'm guessing it can't be hooked onto the back of another 313 to be kept in 5 car form? I guess the lack of pantograph could be an issue?

With them being replaced in the relatively near future there wouldn't be much point in spending outrageous amounts of money on it surely?

I have no idea if another 313 would be capable of hauling two 'dead carriages' that's why I asked. No need to be condescending.

They could but performance would be poor lol.

Maybe Hove isn't such a bad idea?

The operator (Southern) already operates Class 313s, and 2 car Class 313s are not unheard of in the past.

Does anyone know if 313030 has now returned to traffic? The stored DMSO and the BDMSO were moved from the remote sidings at the south end of Hornsey Depot (where they had been for several months) either late August or early September and are no longer visible from the running lines...
