Seen as there is not a proper thread for the 730s talking about deliveries, I thought I'd make one with the main purpose of tracking build progress and deliveries in addition to tracking each units location and acceptance into service.

The other 730 threads had a lot of talk about formations and diagrams, please do not discuss diagrams here.

Up to date as of 19th April 2021.

Any updates to add? Then feel free to let me know . :)

90 mph on the data panel.

They also only have 201 seats compared to a 323 which has 275. There look to be far too many tables on it. I viewed it at Walsall today complete with loads of weights inside on all seats. There are also bolts already missing on the cabs where it appears they have fell out !!!. If you compare the seating, a 6 car 323 has 550 seats compare to a 6 car 730 which as only 402. That's one hell of a reduction. any views appreciated.

Doesn't surprise me. Abellio planned for more "metro" style stand-up passenger accommodation. Which will only make commutes even more crowded and uncomfortable.

And we're now in an era where we need to entice people to come back to the railways for travel...

There isn't much in the way of standing area on the unit, apart from the usual door areas and having viewed it yesterday there seems to be far too many tables though.

My personal experience of moving to a 2+2 layout on the 331s v 3+2 on the 323s is that the 331s are better. Standing is not the end of the world and it’s not comfortable sat in the middle of a 3 or on the aisle seat with someone stood right next to you or sat tightly against you in the middle seat. Do the 730s also have more space in the vestibule area between carriages? That is a bit of a godsend on the 331s compared to the 323s.

I'm getting confused....
The 730/0s, the replacements for the 323s on cross Birmingham services, will have 2+2 seating.
But one batch of the LNwR ones will be 110 mpg with 3 + 2 seating.
And the logic is...

Two things.

1. The franchise agreement under which they were ordered was (like Greater Anglia) based on "seats into London".
2. Standing is more acceptable on short distance stopping services into a city where the journey time is no more than about half an hour than it is on medium distance commuter services where it is often twice that.

For metro-type services, you want 2+2 to give large aisles to "cram em in". For 'outer-suburban' services you want 3+2 so you can brag about the number of seats/day to a terminal - GA being case in point. And then you change type again to the long-distance services where you want 2+2 for comfort reasons, but include things like armrests and slightly wider seats

Yes, thanks, that figures, achieving a KPI in isolation from its underlying intention; in much the same way as 'there are 2 TPH from Northampton to Euston', but they both arrive within a few minutes - just one minute apart, in the case of the10hrs departures.

As already mentioned 3-seat benches are uncomfortable, in different ways, for passengers in each position.

The 3+2 batch are replacing the 350/2s which are 3+2 seating and have been upgraded to 110mph as they often appear on faster services.

The 3+2 batch are for 'outer suburban services'. If these are the Tring and Milton Keynes locals there doesn't seem to be a need for 110 mph capability. However, the 350/2s appear on longer distance services (or at least did, pre covid), so the inference is that this will continue with the new trains. Might not be so attractive to the optional market the industry needs to attract, with the captive commuter market (who have no choice) reduced by WFH.

Quick question for those of you in the know on 730s, has 730101 been abroad, Vellim? for testing, I'm assuming that's the reason it came up from Dollands Moor today

Thanks
