Hello,
Anyone any ideas why there has been an LNER class 801 running empty between Edinburgh and Glasgow for the last few days? Leaves Glasgow at 1344 each day after arriving from Edinburgh at 1314.

Yes, it’s a standard route learning service, been in the current weekday timetable since June. May well have run in previous timetable periods, it’s not easy to check.

The trains (5S04 1149 Edinburgh-Glasgow Central and 3E21 1344 return) have continued running, including yesterday, despite the fact that LNER's very last train to or from Glasgow runs this Saturday! Seems a bit pointless.....

Been running since last year, route retention for drivers, unsure why it still ran these last few months as it no longer serves Glasgow from this weekend.

Unit isn’t needed for a couple of hours at Edinburgh in the current timetable, and it's apparently too tricky to try to change ends to take it to Craigentinny, so they just run it as normal to Glasgow.

It was always a handy thing for LNER, because it wasn’t vital to run it every day (as the driver on it might be well within their time for route retention) and gave them an option for stepping up a unit a couple of hours early in times of disruption or at the very least being able to recover this units diagram. Not sure if that flexibility will be available in their new world.

I’ll miss them, added a bit of colour to Carstairs. Makes the new station avoiding chord seem a bit redundant now with LNER withdrawing from Glasgow and XC quietly never bringing back their pre Covid timetable.

There should be no issue ‘changing ends’ as it’s a fresh driver who takes over at Edinburgh, running it to Craigentinny is no issue what so ever.
Such a waste of time.

What does "station avoiding chord" refer to? Is that the loop on the upside that bypasses the platform? If it is then I think its used by the up sleeper
