That's a font Virgin introduced when they first operated the west coast and cross country routes in the mid-90's.

It made a comeback recently on HST power car 43274 'Spirit of Sunderland'.

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the font so I can't help any further, I would guess it's an in house Virgin one, maybe get in touch?

It appears to be the bold, or black, italic font of the Optima typeface. https://www.linotype.com/1348248/optima-family.html
