Class 87 nameplate font.

Hello all, I was wondering what font was used on the later Class 87 plates such as 87011? I've found an image on flickr that shows it clearly (not my photo).

It appears to be the bold, or black, italic font of the Optima typeface. https://www.linotype.com/1348248/optima-family.html

That's a font Virgin introduced when they first operated the west coast and cross country routes in the mid-90's.

It made a comeback recently on HST power car 43274 'Spirit of Sunderland'.

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the font so I can't help any further, I would guess it's an in house Virgin one, maybe get in touch?

The closest available free alternative might be the URW Classico font, available from the Comprehensive Tex Archive Network:

I should add that the URW Classico font is only available free in accordance with the Alladin Public License, which means it is only free for personal use.

A commercial license is best obtained from the font page at myfonts.com, where it is available for around £20.
