A Director of a big railway company told us at a meeting that Freightliner Heavy Haul would not be a problem to the Company I worked for.
Or that Grand Central would never get off the ground. On those 2 I rest my case.
There is room on this mans railway for small companies to make a living, by taking jobs for the bigger companies that they turn thier noses up to.
These jobs could be special engineering trains at short notice, or feeding off scraps from the bigger companies tables.
I would imaging that these smaller companies are run on a very tight budget, in local areas.

Would hardly say Colas work in small areas. The Chirk logs are to and from Carlisle arent they ?? They also have a path from Washwood Heath to Boston from December by the looks of it.

I remember that meeting :D

Colas are a small company (with BIG financial backing).

They have next to no overheads (no large depots to maintain) so can undercut most competitors bids.

They've done just that recently in the North East and (if rumours are to be believed) it won't stop there.

One to watch in the futre I think but the drivers contracts aren't the best - lowest wage for the longest hours.
Great for those looking for work but no good for those wanting a 'change'.
