Hi All,

After a lot of hard work and a small wait compared to what I have seen for others My Conductor course and Induction is commencing in a couple of weeks now.

I am fully aware that now the real hard work begins and I can’t wait to get stuck in and get the ball rolling.

For the first week I will have a company induction which due to Covid I believe will be on Microsoft Teams unless told other wise closer towards the start date and the course itself commences the week after that.

Now as much as I should probably just hang tight for a couple of weeks and wait to see how the Calendar unfolds the suspense is killing me and,I wondered if anybody who is currently in the role and has been through this process before could shed some light on what to expect in terms of training, tests, and duration of time.

All responses would be appreciated.

Hi. It depends on the TOC. When I started the first week was induction and PTS, then two weeks of rules training. We then went to our base depot for on train learning and then on a retail course. The whole training was about three months.

I've never started externally into the role however I assume all I missed was an induction. At one TOC it was a general introduction to the job followed by PTS training and a depot walkaround. Then about 3 weeks of rules and training for emergencies etc and route learning. A couple of weeks on the job with a minder and then beginning to pass out on the different segments of the process. It was only a small network so relatively quick. I transferred to a larger TOC where coming over as qualified I didn't need to do any rules however route learning took 3 months instead of the 2 weeks at my previous TOC so as stated above it will vary a lot dependent on the TOC and depot. Generally though the basics will be an induction, rules, routes, retail and being out with a minder before passing out.

Hi DM1994,

Thanks ever so much for the detailed response.

I can’t wait to get stuck into it all.
