Could additional platforms be provided at Peterborough?

Will the proposals include any additional platforms?

A platform 8 on the western side could be useful for terminating Ipswich trains

Hopefully the new buildings next to the station will have some retail units where you can get some decent food and a drink, trekking into the city centre along the existing pedestrian unfriendly routes whilst waiting for a connecting train isn’t the most pleasant experience.

Ultimately the best way the improve the experience for connecting passengers would be to provide more frequent connecting trains (2tph to Leicester, Cambridge and Norwich and 1tph to Ipswich), but unfortunately that’s far outside of the scope for this project.

Not aware of any

Actually Ipswich trains are better off staying where they are in the centre (Platform 6) of the three 'new' platforms to reduce conflicting moves which would be caused by the idea you suggest. By all means move Stansted to New Street and Norwich to Liverpool services to this new platform but leave terminating services from Spalding direction and those from Ipswich in the centre platforms of those platforms.

No. This project is about regenerating the area around the station, it does not include tracks and platforms. Railfuture don't seems to be able to grasp this either.

A pressure group called for station upgrades to be included in a £65m regeneration project.

Railfuture UK discussed Peterborough's new station quarter at a meeting on Thursday, which will benefit from nearly £48m in government funding.

The group's East Anglia vice-chair, Peter Wakefield, said while the project was "exciting", it was "important" not to forget about the station itself.

Lewis Banks, who is overseeing the project for Peterborough City Council, said while the plans would "transform the city", in regards to platfrom improvements there were "no current plans" and the scheme was being looked at "from a regeneration perspective".

The tracks and platforms at Peterborough have already had 2 major redevelopments in my lifetime, one of them relatively recently.

Basically this project is about the area around the station catching up with what happened inside the barrier line about a decade ago.

Could a through line be built for the southbound fasts to London to avoid using the platform line?

I thought that Waitrose was next to the front of Peterborough station and had a cafe.

The 1970s upgrade included an up fast line with no platform.

The 2010s upgrade put what is now platform 3 next to it.

I suppose they could take platform 3 out.
