Hi all,

I have a couple of questions about renewing a rail card at a station.

Firstly, is the rail card printed in the same way as ones that are ordered by post?

(Sorry if this is strange question - the last rail card I ever bought from a station was a piece of cardboard covered with sticky plastic and would rather have the the more durable plastic card that I am used to receiving by post).

Secondly, for a rail card renewal, would I require new photographs and/or identification documents?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Kind regards.

I bought my very last young person railcard at the station a few weeks ago, not bad going for a 26 year old.

It will come in two parts:
A photocard, in which your passport sized photo(which you must provide) will be sandwiched between a piece of card and its attached sticky back plastic.
And the railcard itself which is just some very special ticketing stock with all the details including photocard number.

Railcards bought at the station come in two parts: the photocard (which is the piece of cardboard covered in plastic film) and the railcard, which is just a standard card ticket.

If you would prefer the plastic credit-card sized railcard, you will need to buy this online.

I believe that the old photocard can still be used, provided it is still a true resemblance to how you now look

However if the previous railcard was an online one, best to bring in a new photo on paper as someone once cut up their old railcard to use the photo, and it cut the sticky back plastic!

Everything said above is correct, "flimsy" card + photocard at a station.

Just don't try to laminate it or this will happen!

In terms of ID, depends on what type of Railcard you intend to buy.

Reminds me of my old West Yorkshire Metro pass - every time I renewed it the clerk cut the old photo off and put it under a new layer of sticky back plastic. It got rather thick by the end and had the word metro over my face several times and all out of alignment.

I'm missing the £22 weekly bus and train tickets now I'm out of uni for the last time.
