Is this done by a TOC by TOC basis, each with their own working patterns?

I ask only because I'm now in the habit of catching the same trains every 4 weeks. Whether or not it's chance, I've had the same TM for each journey each time. Is this normal? It's been 3 times now. Apart from glad to seeing the same familiar face, it's been nice to have a chat with them.

Haven't been on this again though since the new TT.

Can't speak for other companies, but ours takes into account drivers route knowledge, home station and amount of hours the driver has done over the last week and the year.

Each TOC is in charge of its own rostering and diagramming. Rosters and Diagrams are made up to take into account drivers/guards route, traction knowledge and to work within the parameters of 'Hidden' regulations (named after the Hidden report by Antony Hidden). They must also work within the grades terms and conditions (turn length, duty mileage, driving hours etc). Some links will have the same duty repeated over a couple of days, there is a week in my link that works the same duty all week!
