Didn't it run into the ex-Midland station of Lincoln St Mark's?
Perhaps it ceased when that station closed in May 1985?

It certainly did used to run to/from Lincoln St Mark's, but then it would do as that was the only station in Lincoln that was accessible from the Nottingham direction. In those days Lincoln Central could only be accessed from the east or from the Gainsborough direction. Trains were only able to run t/from Lincoln Central from Newark and Nottingham following the building of a new piece of line just to the west of Lincoln, which had to be built before St. Marks closed.

Yes - sorry - I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean that perhaps it ceased when St Mark's closed because there was no further access to Lincoln from the Nottingham direction. Rather that perhaps the Eastern Region used the retimtabling of Nottingham trains into Central station via the then new Holmes Chord as an opportunity to curtail the service at Nottingham.

I don 't know - just a suggestion. :)

I think EMT are having a gala day today! There's at least a 156, 158, a 2 x 153 and a 153 + 156 on the service.

They must be considering a) all trains are 2 or more coaches and b) only 3 units are needed to operate the off peak service! Why are 4 formations running the route instead of 3?

I was surprised when a 156 turned up at Crewe last Thursday on the 12.07 to Derby. One of the other diagrams was 2x153 as well. Not sure about the others. Needless to say I had a table to myself for the entire journey to Derby... which was nice!

I wondered perhaps if it was something to do with the Download festival.

the 0907,1207 and 1507 ex Crewe are often worked by a class 156.

Thanks for that. When did it start? Always had a single 153 on the 1207 ex Crewe in the past (only use it twice a year though).
