In the final cricket game of 2015 we were given an absolute belter.
Sydney Sixers set the Strikers 176 and unbeliebably they chased it down with a massive knock from Travis Head who scored a century in 53 balls.

3rd ODI International Match

New Zealand...276-8 (50 overs)
Williamson 59

Sri Lanka...277-2 (46.2 overs)
Dilshan 91
Thirimanne 87 not out
Gunathiara 65

A good example of how a 50 overs ODI should be played with both sides averaging over five runs per over.

Totally agreed. Sri Lankans are back in the game. Tomorrow's game will be a stunner!

The Melbourne Derby was on tonight with the Stars and Renegades facing off.
Renegades set 7/161 off thier 20 overs.
The Stars won the day in 19.1 Overs by 7 wickets. Luke Wright scored 109
It was a record crowd with 80,883 seeing the game. So much the demand were there seats a bay cover had to be removed.

A bigger problem was the farce outside with the terror fence. Lines stretching 100's of meters just to get through the security checkpoint which is just a bag check and wanding.
So much did fans get frustrated they jumped the fence just to get in. It was estimated 20,000 people were stuck outside the fence.

But of course there was a hero of the night. Watermelon Boy. A kid in the crowd tucking into a whole watermelon for the entire game!

Let's hope that Stokes can get a Century tomorrow.

Bairstow is on 95...again. :P

But there we go. Ben Stokes has just hit 204 off 163 balls. As Tim has said, the fastest ever double century by an England player. And that's also the most runs scored by a batsman on the first morning section of the text match EVER.

Both are not out. England have posted an unfinished score of 513-5. When will they declare? Will they wait for Bairstow to hit his century? Will they bat on until tea? Will Stokes open the bowling?

I can't see them declaring now, they've got time to reach 600 runs.

Bairstow's got his century! England 542-5.

Day 2 ended with a great partnership between Stokes and Bairstow which saw the total progress from 223-5 to 622-6 before Stokes was run out, but not until he had scored the fastest double century by an England player.

England 629-6 declared
Stokes 258 (11 x 6 / 30 x 4)
Bairstow 150 not out (2 x 6 / 18 x 4)

South Africa 141-2 at close of play.

And Stokes took the only SA wicket to fall to a bowler! Unbelievable stuff...

Heard on radio news this p.m. An Indian schoolboy has scored one thousand runs in one innings!!! The previous world record was a mere 600 plus runs. The team made close to 1500 runs in the innings and demolished the opposition for something like 31 and 52 runs in their two innings, to win by an innings and 1300 plus runs. Ben Stokes, eat your heart out!

Good old British media, one big partnership between Stokes and Bairstow make England the best team on the planet, a couple of days later they're looking down the barrel

69-3 aint great but will lead to the usual tabloid press wibble
It looks as if the pitch disintegrated - which it should at this stage of a match - though it was ridiculously placid for four days, and was really unfit for the match. Currently awaiting the inevitable call, but it would have been an intriguing finish if play had continued and England had been out for around 175. IMHO England would have then been slight favourites ahead of the draw.

Not very surprised to hear that Hashim Amla has quit the South African Test captaincy, there's been mistakes made, not taking the new ball in the previous Test match and under bowling Morne Morkel completely puzzled me.

I suspect he was a victim of picking the captain from those who were certs for the team - which, in SAs case - had a shortlist of roughly two, one of whom was the best batsman and wicketkeeper, so probably not the best choice..

The Aus vs WI test ended exactly as everyone picked. A draw. WI all out for 330. Australia made 2/176. Warner putting on a show with the fastest century at the G ending on 122 off 103

England played a great game but South Africa proved themselves in the end!

Last but not the least. HM Amla stepped down from captaincy despite his splendid 200. I wish every cricketer could think like this great man!

Very well said Fahad! Hash was down and out in the year 2015, but he returned in 2016, with a solid double century knock. England did miss few of the chances, but apart from that, It seems like he has started to find his rhythm, form and foot work, which was missing in the last year..Last see, how he is going to play in the next match.."Fingers crossed"

True that! He just needed a good knock to get back in the game and he got one in the last game

Amla's batting average as a captain was over 49. as a non-captain over 51, so I don't think his batting could really have been proved to deteriorate once he was appointed. He probably wouldn't have been pushed ( at this stage, anyway) but he obviously thought someone else could do it better. It's usually England captains who stand down during a series with SA - Hussein, Vaughan and Strauss most recently!

Wow! Dwayne Bravo hits the ball, it hits Peter Nevill's bat as he starts running, ricochets off Adam Zampa (the bowler)'s nose and hits the stumps! Nevill is run out.

Presumably on the basis that the bowler got some part of his body on to the ball before the stumps were broken. Priceless!
