Not sure if this has been asked before.

I have recently received an email from Cross-country that a delay repay I submitted has been accepted, and will be paid via PayPal (which I requested).

I would have assumed that PayPal would be quicker, but any idea how long it usually takes? I know the email states 10 working days, but they also say that with bacs payments and its usually in within a few days

Don't forget that things generally take a little bit longer over the Xmas period.

I should have made myself more clearer about the Christmas period as it does seem to come across thats what I'm asking. I mean in general excluding the Christmas period. 10 working days for something that is meant to be quicker than bacs does seem a long time.

It'll be a generic copy and paste thing for if it takes a little while longer than normal. Ie system maintenance, heavy work load, and things like the xmas period and the like.

I don't think it takes PayPal more than a few minutes. It's purely down to them as to how quickly they make the payment!

It's the processing time that's slow. FWIW, I find this a nuisance as you have to faff about withdrawing it - I wish VTWC would just do BACS like some others do!

VTWC stunned me recently by refunding my fare even though I hadn't asked them to. There was a power outage at Wembley on the day I was travelling, delaying everything out of Euston, and I eventually got going an hour and a half late. Still, I got to Edinburgh in comfort and in time for tea, and as far as I was concerned there was nothing to grumble about. And yet a few days later they emailed to say that my ticket money was on its way back into my bank account, as indeed it was (a simple BACS payment).

What fantastic customer service!

VTWC refund via PayPal and it is back within minutes, not had PayPal back via XC though, so not sure how long they take, with VTWC I basically get the email from them saying they are going to refund and the email from PayPal saying I have money at the same time!

That won't have been BACS, rather a refund to the payment card used for the payment. VTWC don't offer BACS at all - it's RTV, cheque (I think) or PayPal.

Oops, I stand corrected. Whatever the method, I still take my hat off to VTWC for doing what they did, especially as it didn't even occur to me to ask for it.

This has nothing to do with the speed of PayPal and everything to do with CrossCountry processing it.

It is likely they have a batch payment arrangement with PayPal whereby they upload an Excel type file of all the payments they wish to make and pay in the money to cover them, probably by BACS. This is probably done once every week or two and probably all needs to be signed off by someone pretty senior. This is part of the checks and balances of working with a large company.

Sounds like 'Automatic Delay Repay'. You qualify for it if you booked an advance via the VT website/app and it is just for a VT service, not + connections.

That's right. Fantastic service. Very different from recent experiences on GWR when I've been on trains terminated short/cancelled and made to wait ages for an ongoing service.
