Cross-country train at Stalybridge today

Arrived home into Stalybridge at 1945 this evening on the TPE service from York and there was a crosscountry train sat on the line behind platform 2 which is more commonly used for freight trains to stop allowing passanger services to pass.

Any ideas what it what it was doing there, as I've certainly never seen one their trains up this way before.

Was it a HST? If so it's an ECS working from Neville Hill for the SO Manchester - Newquay/Paignton service.

I couldn't say for sure with authority but it looked like the common or garden variety that I normally see at Piccadilly most mornings.
