I think my point was that it is unwise to put out service patterns, journey times etc as fact when it is only opinion and assumption. Such issues will be worked on by professionals over the years to come.

Of course the professionals will work on the fine details as time progresses, and if NR has to serve Earlsfield, I'm sure a plan suitable will be made. But we're still a whole stage before that at the moment.

Right now, we are in the critical stage of selecting the single preferred option. Those really key decisions will be taken in the next 3 to 12 months (to meet the published timescales). After that, it will be fine detail on the single selected option. Those decisions will clearly have consequences for some locations and yet people in those locations don't even know there is an issue! For example, Earlsfield had no events in the latest consultation and the likely service reduction was not in any of the published consultation documents.

For those unaware, TfL is responsible for planning north of Wimbledon, while NR is responsible for planning south. And at the consultation it was made clear that Network Rail's planning is a long way behind that of TfL (there was very very little detail from NR in the recent consultation). The problem is that in SW London the issues from Earlsfield through Wimbledon to Raynes Park are all interlinked. Because that section is split between the two organizations, many of us in Merton feel we are getting a very raw deal from Crossrail 2 planning.

Probably not for very much longer.;)

Especially as the constituency is going to be abolished and divided up at the next general election what ever happens before then...

Earlsfield will probably be heading to the Putney constituency (aong with Wimbledon station area!)

Sitting on a Pendolino out of Euston last week got me to wondering if there was benefit to joining the Watford - Euston Overground TfL service to CR2 at Euston?

This gives an alternative destination in the north of London for CR2 trains from Wimbledon and more importantly frees up platform space at Euston.

Euston is about to become a huge construction site for HS2, would they be able to thread a new tunnel for the DC lines under the station to join to CR2?

If you look at the maps on line you'll see it has been hard enough to thread tunnels, platforms and access tunnels (for passengers) in between all the existing tube lines and the basements of the British library and Francis Crick institute. There simply isn't space for a junction and another set of platforms.

That's the same reason that any proposals for HS2 to be tunnelled under Euston are non starters.

The trains used on Crossrail will be around twice the length of those used on the Watford DC line, and those on Crossrail 2 would be similar. Having a proportion of trains much shorter would reduce capacity on Crossrail 2 and possibly also increase dwell times because passengers may not be correctly positioned on the platform when a shorter train arrives. Alternatively most of the platforms out to Watford would need extending and the power supplies beefing up (AC conversion probably) to carry longer trains for which there is no demand.

The link that is suggested in the Wembley area to send Tring services down Crossrail 1 could equally take trains on the DC lines and would be easier to build than any Crossrail 2 link at Euston. The fact this isn't proposed indicates it's not a good idea.

It would be a bit odd to have a branch off the middle of a cross London line? It would immediately reduce the service on at least one end of the already planned line. Unless you made it even more complex by having a Y-junction...
