Hi guys,

Does everybody remember the days when the current daily Voyager from Cardiff (now 1M25, the 0700 to Manchester) used to go to Newcastle and Edinburgh? Why was this changed following the timetable change a few years back? When it ran to Edinburgh it had a direct link to stations such as Sheffield, Leeds, York and Newcastle. Shame it was taken off!

It was switched because all Bristol-Newcastle trains were switched to Bristol-Manchester trains. As part of the December 2008 timetable XC services were standardised, and Bristol and Reading services switched destinations as a part of that. The Cardiff service simply being an extension of a Bristol-Manchester service. There will still be a service from Birmingham-Newcastle as well, it will now run from Reading instead though.

I much prefered it when it was a hst and worked to Swansea, of course the afternoon service used to run from Cardiff following about 10 minutes after a fgw hst so was always quiet.
