Thanks!

Something different at Dale End Lane today. 800004 and 800010 has been combined to form a 7 coach set as a test unit around the GWR network to see if a 7 coach length fits in stations and sidings. If the tests are successful then a order could be made to boost capacity on the busiest services from next year.

I think this needs to be in the speculative discussion? ;)

Have your safety checks for cracks on the class 800 been successfully completed? ;)

I have seen the booster packs to make a 9 car unit coming this year too but I have an 800 5-car, hmm

I’m assuming that the motor is in one of the driving cars? So how do these perform when pushing another 8 coaches around curves on a layout?

I can't see any cracks so should be fine

Yep. Although I have a feeling that 9 car unit may have slight differences to the original pack (800004) as it has a different grey on the doors.

The motor where the kitchen is on the first class end (so it hidden by the windows). It has no problem when the motor is leading but if you try starting on a corner with the motor at the rear then it does struggle. That is as a 8 car unit shunting round the layout.

unusual Sunday scenes at Dale End Lane yesterday. With engineering works down the line only the regional units were used which resulted in all but a 153 out which hasn't happened since May last year due to strikes and then reduced timetable.

Meanwhile on the other side of the layout the carriage sidings were full.

Easter engineering works over at Dale End Lane replacing one of the points into the carriage sidings after reverse detection failed.

That's great that you replaced it and it all looks to have gone alright - rather you than me!

Thanks. Yes all ok now as can now use the front siding again without everything derailing on the way in (except the 57's for some reason).
Oh what a job. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago and it had to be replaced, very daunting because I was worried about damaging the trackwork either side but it actually wasn’t too bad in the end.
I didn't find it to bad as everything came up quite easy. The worst part was the soldering as the connections for the section is on the point.

Latest addition to the fleet is a Network Rail Mk1 and former test car Mercury.

Some recent pictures from the layout:

A Saturday is when you want the most capacity. Thankfully the 1250 departure is a single 153.
IMG_20220709_132013.jpg

Unusual site these days of a HST using the middle road due to the Cross Country set using platform 2 instead of 1.
IMG_20220709_104302.jpg

The latest additions to the Dale End Lane fleet after visiting DEMU Showcase last week is a maroon Mk1 buffet and Mk2 brake. Both are for the charter set which is a mix of Mk1's and 'Cornish Riviera' coaches. The Mk2 I see as more of a support coach while the Mk1 will be added to the middle of the set.

Really like the charter set. That’s a great idea.
Also the first photo with the canopy looks very ‘main line’.

I can only echo @Cowley re. that charter set - I really like those two new coaches. Those Cornish Riviera coaches at the front of the rake look like GWR "Centenary" coaches to me - a very nice design with the angled end doors: 1935 vintage (or thereabouts), I want to suggest?

That glass canopy in the first picture looks really interesting - is it simply one of the overall roof kits turned round 90 degrees?

There is something about curved points - there's always something that doesn't want to run through them (but everything else gets on with the job)...

I have no idea what type of coach it is other than it's a older GWR one! I just picked four of them up at an exhibition a few years back. Here is another picture showing one a bit better.

Pretty much but I have to extend it slightly due to having 3 lines to cover so one end was chopped off about 2 sections in and the main section was extended slightly before gluing the sections together (see the gap is slightly different between the second and third section from the right). To add the supports a thin plastic 'beam' was added which also hold the 3 arches together otherwise the supports would of been right on the edge of platform 1.

Yep. The 156 and 221 also don't like certain curved points.

I like that 37+57 railtour formation! The roof does look very good indeed. I ended up giving up on my curved points due to de-railments. Just didn't need the hassle.

Latest addition to the Dale End Lane fleet is most of a rake of Mk4's in TfW livery. At the moment it is a rake of 4 coaches with 3 standard and one 1st class along with the DVT. In due course a buffet will be added which will give the option of running 4 or 5 coach lengths as well. Overall, they are nice models with good detail but the price on the DVT may be a bit steep. I think this is down to something to do with DCC?

My apologies @43055 - I thought I'd responded to this. That set looks lovely - the finish on it looks to be really crisp. It's also just nice to see some more modern-image stock being released at the moment! Loving that last photo, too. :)

Time for the Christmas goodies:

The mk4 set is now complete with the arrival of the buffet. I also have the hunt magnetic couplings which will eventually be added.
IMG_20221227_183045.jpg

2 more coaches for the character train are these Pullman coaches called 'IBIS' and 'ARGUS'
IMG_20221227_183144.jpg

And finally for the 800's the Hunt Dellner's to allow two sets to be coupled up and run as a 8 car which just fits in the station.
