Hej all.

I'm planning Berlin - Praha with a deliberate four-hour stopover in Dresden. The difference between a Super Sparpreis Europa and a Sparpreis Europa is just €4; and although it can't be used in Prague the City Ticket included in the regular Sparpreis Europa ticket will be useful to me in Berlin.

Question is, if you specify a connection with a duration in the bahn.de search, can you use the City Ticket in that city as well as the departure / arrival city?

A big difference between Sparpreis and SuperSparpreis is the former is refundable (For vouchers) the latter is not. That alone is with 4 EUR I would suggest.

Looking at the German language specified, it states

* Free travel by public transport to the train station at the point of departure
* Free onward travel on public transport at the destination

This implies that, unless you break the ticket down from Berlin - Dresden, and Dresden to Prag, that travel in Dresden would not be included. A day ticket on the inner zone of VVO (the area around Dresden's version of TfL) is €6.50, or a ticket for 2 at €10.

Thanks @Ianno87 and @riceuten for the quick replies.

It turns out Dresden is a good place to split tickets anyway, so I have just bought a Sparpreis for Berlin-Dresden and a Super Sparpreis for Dresden-Praha four hours later. This works out cheaper than a through ticket with a longer connection.

Since I will arrive from Stockholm with Snälltåget with a fairly comfy cushion, I will be able to use the City Ticket in both Berlin for a bit of sightseeing around breakfast time and then in Dresden during my stopover.

A day ticket in Praha costs only CZK110. Looks like a monthly ticket only costs 5-6 times that.

Yes, transport in Prague is incredibly good value. I've been once or twice on holiday and once as a teacher on a university trip. Prague is great for student groups because of cheap travel, although sadly with 50+ students it was inevitable that one or two got pickpocketed during that trip. Nothing irreplacable, luckily, and perhaps a good life lesson for less well travelled students!

About to post another thread with an unrelated CZ train question....
