Delay Repay for yesterday

Evening all,

Currently in the middle of getting delay repay for my ticket after the WCML OHLE mess yesterday and need assistance.

I booked my ticket via the Virgin Trains Ticketing app from London Euston to Carlisle but it was a spilt ticket which required a change at Crewe. First on 1U45, 17:46 EUS - CRE then 9S97, 20:09 CRE - CAR, but both had their problems, 1U45 was cancelled beyond Rugby and I would need to take a rail replacement bus between Rugby and Crewe, which likely meant that I would miss 9S97, so I went and asked the information desk about it and said that if it was possible for me to get on 9S97 at Euston as ticket acceptance was active and I would of still ended up getting on it at Crewe if it hadn’t. Information desk said that was fine. The second problem is that 9S97 was delayed around 50 minutes for the vast majority of its journey due to the late arrival of the train manager from Euston and arrived into Carlisle 51 minutes late.

The spilt ticket itself was actually an EUS - STA (WMT only) and STA - CAR (Avanti & Connections) costing £28.75 and £9.65 respectively with a 16-25 railcard for a total of £38.40 and when checking my delay repay for the Avanti leg, I would receive £4.83 in compensation as it was only operator that I actually took.

So my question is, should I do delay repay from LNWR only, Avanti only, both or simply don’t bother.

Appreciated all help in advance.

Apply for Delay Repay from Avanti for £38.40. It was such a mess yesterday that no-one is going to care about the nuances.

I suspect that would end up sent back to WMT as their train was the first problem on your intended itinerary. I'd claim from them for the full journey even though you didn't use their train - your intended itinerary did, and it was that cancellation that was the first impact on your journey.

I expect it will be one of those cases where you'll be paid a 2 hour claim even though only a 30 minute one is due.
