Put it in the right forum.

BTW - you're very unlikely to get a Valenta on those - by half term there will be approximately 10 Valenta's left on FGW.

Or get a SVR (Get all of you put on the same ticket, so you get the group save discount?) from Farnborough North to Didcot, just make sure its valid via London.

2 Adults
2 Children
Farnborough North - Didcot @ £33.30
Reading - London Paddington @ 39.00
Total = £72.30

Family Railcard Fares:

2 Adults
2 Children
Farnborough North - Didcot @ £18.90
Reading - London Paddington @ 22.10
Total = £41.00

Cost of Rail card for a year= £20

You would still save £12.30, even if you haven't got a railcard yet, and get one to use for this journey.

Well, there's only 1 - 2 HSTs per hour to Didcot, these usually are the Bristol services. Highly unlikely you'll get a Valenta, and very likely you'll get an HD-HST.

Why not go to Peterborough?

Fred,

If, as you say you are travelling Farnborough North-Reading-Didcot-Reading-London Paddington-Reading-Farnborough North, then any combination via Reading will suffice ie.
1) Farnborough-Didcot & Reading-Paddington or
2) Farnborough-Paddington & Reading-Didcot.

I think the second combination is slightly cheaper when I checked.

Farnborough North to London Paddington via Any Permitted Cheap Day Return
£15.50 Adult
£7.75 Child

That will permit travel via Reading.

Reading to Didcot Parkway Cheap Day Return
£6.30 Adult
£3.15 Child

If you want to go with Group Save, (that's four people travel for the price of two), you add the two adult prices together, (so you've got the price for both tickets), and times it by two, (so it's for the two paying adults). That comes to £43.60.

You can also go down the road of buying a Family Railcard - that costs £20.

Farnborough North to London Paddington via Any Permitted Cheap Day Return FAMILY RC
£10.25 Adult
£2.95 Child

Reading to Didcot Parkway Cheap Day Return FAMILY RC
£4.15 Adult
£2.40 Child

Adult x2 + Child x2 on both tickets equals £39.50.

£39.50 seems the better option, but remember you still have to pay £20 for a Family Railcard - the railcard, however, lasts for a year, so you can use it again.

Why not do Taplow or something?

Farnborough North to Reading, to Taplow, then onto Paddington, then do a HST back?
