PKP Intercity plans to acquire first and second class coaches designed in seven compartment configurations designed for various groups of travellers:
  • 38 1st class compartment cars with a separated non-compartment section;
  • 40 2nd class compartment coaches;
  • 80 2nd class non-compartment cars;
  • 38 2nd class compartment carriages with places for people with disabilities;
  • ;
  • 26 day and night carriages, which will ensure comfortable journeys at night;
  • 38 restaurant cars designed to offer a more intimate interior
If the right of option is exercised, PKP Intercity will order from 13 to 40 units for each of the type of carriage which reaching 450 new coaches. The delivery of the first units is expected to start in 2025.
PKP Intercity expected offers for seven lots. Newag has applied for the supply of 80 second-class sitting coaches and 40 couchette coaches. FPS is ready to deliver 38 dining, 26 sleeping, and 38 first-class couchette coaches. Both manufacturers offered to supply 38 coaches with seats for people with limited mobility and 40 second-class non-couchette coaches.

The “38 1st class compartment cars with a separated non-compartment section” and “40 2nd class compartment coaches” turns out to be couchette coaches while the “80 2nd class non-compartment cars” and “40 2nd class non-compartment carriages with places for bicycles” turns out to be seating coaches.
Just to ask if compartment coaches of like ÖBB/SBB/DB can be used as couchettes in night trains?

You can’t.

Although old-fashioned compartment coaches used to be quite popular on night trains, since if they were not full, you could pull out the seats and create a kind of bed (not sure if there is still enough spare capacity nowadays to make this realistic).

On the other hand, it’s absolutely not unheard of that couchettes get used as seating cars on day trains.

You could "sleep" only 3 people that way, couchettes can take up to 6.

Slightly surprised they want to order new compartment coaches. There can't have been many orders for those for years

To my understanding, those are not couchettes. They are compartment coaches with seats only - only 26 couchettes ("day-night carriages") are planned to be ordered, according to this source (in Polish).

PKP Intercity has regularly ordered them (new and refurbishments).

Looks like PKPIC doesn’t have enough night train coaches

Those aggregating sites often get things very wrong, I assume they are at least partly AI. The original PKP press release matches the Railway Pro site, so they definitely are tendering for 38 1st and 40 2nd class compartment coaches. See here.
