Last week Talgo shipped the first 15 car formation from their factory in Rivabellosa in Spain and this morning it crossed the border to Denmark hauled by DB Cargo.
On formation consists of:
Bpd - End car with area for bikes and prams
Bpt - Car with two toilets
Bp - Car without toilets
Bpt
Bp
Bpt
Bp

Bp
Bph - Car with PRM-area for three wheelchairs, PRM-toilet and vending machines (coffee/snacks)
Ap - First class car with 1+2 seating without toilets
Apt - First class car with 1+2 seating with two toilets
Bpd

One Bpd end car in each formation will be replaced by an Aps first class control car in 2026, identical to the ones in ICE L for DB. DSB initially ordered eight 15-car formations with two end cars each. In 2023 another eight 15-car formations were ordered, but this time with two control cars each. This means that each formation in the end will get one Vectron, one end car and one control car. Initially DSB planned to run them with a Vectron in each end, so the 16 Vectrons have already been bought and delivered.
The formations are technically very similar to ICE L, so even though DSB only required 200 km/h, they will be approved for 230 km/h to make things easier. As the DSB Vectrons can only do 200 km/h, that will be their service speed.

DSB aims to put them into revenue service in August 2024, but it will probably only be in domestic services until the timetable change in December 2024. Then they will run between Copenhagen and Hamburg - but nothing is official yet.

Here are two videos I have found on YouTube of the transport this morning:

Happy Christmas DSB!

Although I know the technology is proven over many decades, I’ll never not look at those short, stubby Talgo carriages and their single axles without being a little skeptical.

The Copenhagen - Hamburg corridor is so important for all of Scandinavia, so I can’t wait to see these enter in service.

Thanks for the information! This extra capacity is really needed. But it's a pity that DSB still thinks vending machines are enough for long distances services.

And if you are unlucky you will have to walk through 12 cars to get to the vending machines. Seems less than ideal

It is nearly ten years since DSB got rid of its trolleys as they were making just too great a loss to justify their retention; less than one in seven of the long-distance passengers were making a purchase. It is decades since the restaurant cars went as the main route across the Store Bælt was geared up to everyone who wanted a meal grabbing it on the ferry. There were some buffet-cars that sold hot (frankfurter-like) sausages, but they went in the early 1990s. Quite simply, people nowadays stock up before joining the train and I don’t think it would ever pay, particularly as it would have to bear all the overheads.

But the ferries are gone so that option for buying food is no longer possible. And having to buy food before you board the train makes the train trip de facto longer.

SJ's bistro cars are pretty popular it seems and they are profitable. If SJ can make it work, why can't DSB? Or are Danes too different from Swedes?
