Does my ticket act as a U1 travelcard?

Bought a ticket the other day from fratton to kings cross and was wondering (because it says to U1* Londn) whether it counts as a travelcard for the whole of zone 1, or do i have to purchase this separately?

Am I right in assuming the asterisk is there to prevent someone scribbling in a '2'?

All U-zone tickets are valid for one single journey in the relevant zones.

Travelcards used to be issued as R-zone fares although no longer the case. They now explicitly say "London Zones X-X".

Remember in most cases you're better off using Oyster or Contactless than buying a paper travelcard.

Exception is if you have a railcard but you don't have this discount applied to an Oyster card

U1 can be worth it if you are starting your journey on the Underground or are split ticketting multiple advances to and from London. If there are delays, it helps with Delay Repay etc not having to run the argument of 'I was planning to use Oyster honestly' etc as the ticket makes it crystal clear in advance and proves it is one journey all under the NRCoT
