Very unlikely as they are not authorised for clearance through Bryn.

Also, probably just saw half of a 156 through the dark and trees etc.

Hence the reason they would never be diagrammed on a Blackpool North to Liverpool Lime Street service!

Since when ? 153s were used fairly often a few years ago when there was a Morecambe - Liverpool service (and often late due to overcrowding).

A restriction was placed by Network Rail on class 153 and class 155 trains between Springs Branch Jn and Huyton Jn due to 'gauge clearance issues' at Bryn station. This took effect from late June 2014 and continues until further notice. (From our weekly operating notice).

Pretty sure that was the booked 150 today, only from my recollection of walking past it shut down on P3 at Manchester Victoria after arrival.
