Railway coach doors are a different colour to the rest of the coach. If you can't see the door, how do you get as far as the station?

Flush plug doors can blend into the body, especially if a designer has applied a multicoloured livery across bodyside and door.

Visual impairment encompasses a vast spectrum. A little adjustment can help greatly.

Indeed the contrasting doors should still be readily visible to people with just 10% vision. Contrasting hand rails and grabs should be visible to those with 20% or better

Perhaps we should just paint/cover everything beige. Seats, doors, grab poles everything. Then even those of us who are fully sighted will be struggling to find our way.

Whilst we are at it let's take away ramps and put in steps. Don't want those pesky wheelie people being able to get about easily on their own and live as independent life as possible either now do we.

I have extremely good vision and I would not ever fail to notice where the train doors are.

However, some are not so lucky and have poorer eyesight, therefore they cannot always detect where the doors are unless they are in a different colour. To you and I this may not make much difference and might seem like a pointless change, but to someone else it can mean a lot more and we just have to respect that. ;)

Someone with poor vision can choose to arrive early so they have extra time to find their way through the station to the platform. But the train may spend only a short time at the platform so it's helpful if everybody can find the doors as quickly as possible.

There are some very sensible well mannered arguments above answering this.

You can ask a question but please do be careful with wording in future as it has, understandably, caused some upset.

As the question has been answered comprehensively there doesn't appear to be anything else to be added, so I will close the thread.
