Good afternoon.

I am not sure if I post this on the right forum. I need some advice, please.
My friend, who is 81 and hasn't been on a 3 hour train journey for many years, is leaving Durham to Kings Cross on 29/6/24 at 10.40am.
I booked his ticket and he is in first class coach L. When he gets on the platform in Durham, does he go right or left to wait for the train to arrive in order to
get on the first class coaches? I don't want him to get on the wrong side of the train and dragging his suitcase all the way to to coach L
He might be a bit stressed with all that, but hopefully a lovely crew will give him a few calming glasses of red wine after midday along with a bit of food from the brunch menu. I will pick him up from Kings Cross and hope he will have a wonderful journey in first class.
Thank you.

If the train is the planned way around, first class will be at the front of the train so he’ll want to turn left. Last time I was there, there were signs with coach letters along the platform to indicate where to wait.

Furthermore, I've never been at Durham where there isn't a dispatcher on the platform, so your friend could ask. But as others have said, signs on the platform, plus the screens. Should be turning left out of the travel centre

Another positive is that it is incredibly rare for an LNER train to be in reverse formation (ie First Class at the 'north' end).
