Is Edinburgh EDB the same station as Edinburgh Waverley? They both come up on booking engines, so I'm thinking it's just because it is known by both names.

Many thanks! I'm relieved as I've booked a hotel on the basis that it is close to Waverley, although our train comes in to EDB .

I think that there are other "confusing" examples using that website - am sure I've seen "Buxton Stations" as an alternative to just "Buxton" (when there's surely only one station in Buxton)?

Yup, there is!

Same for Matlock:

Matlock (All stations)
Matlock
Matlock Bath

Matlock Bath is a separate town. Is it not?

The Bure Valley Railway in Norfolk has a station called Buxton, could be valid to that one too

I was wondering if maybe it was including Dove Holes, but looking at a map it's a very huge stretch to claim that Dove Holes is in Buxton.

Yes, it's a different place altogether (like Llandudno and Llandudno Junction, or Great Malvern and Malvern Link).

Scottish Region did intend to suppress the name Waverley entirely in the early 80s, some 15 years after the closure of Edinburgh Princes Street, but withdrew after a strong campaign in the city.

Buxton did used to have three station afaik but that would be a pretty big throw back!

It may have been a wider BR thing, as about the same time there were plans to change Bristol Temple Meads into just Bristol. I think that one was halted because of possible confusion with Bristol Parkway.

Buxton had identical LNWR and MR terminal stations side by side, only the former survives. There was a third station in the town, Higher Buxton on the LNWR heading south towards Ashbourne - the station is long closed, I believe that the line survives for part of the distance as a freight route.
