Yes, you can of course go that route.

Is it a day trip? There is no "Route Appleby" fare from Edinburgh but you can split at Carlisle to reduce the price by £30!

EDB-LDS £76-60 Any Permitted Off Peak

EDB-CAR £19-50 Any Permitted Off Peak Day
CAR-LDS £27-80 Appleby Anytime Day

There are also some advance fares available by this route. To find them, search for Edinburgh - Leeds via Appleby. They are routed VWC & Connections, so they can only be bought where Virgin operate the Edinburgh - Carlisle leg, not for those services operated by TPE.

This restricts their availability to 3 of the 6 southbound and 2 of the 5 northbound services daily.
