Noting that the upgrade of the Aberdeen-Inverness line still has some way to go (re-doubling at the eastern end, new stations, rolling stock cascades) I was under the impression that Elgin Yard's future was as a passenger train stabling facility.
There has been no regular freight for many years although there was a brief trial with containerised bulk whisky tanks in the fairly recent past.
