Keep an eye out this week for a new vacancy to be posted. Depot Operations Controller, working at the Elizabeth Line depot at Old Oak Common near Willesden Junction station.

Salary is between £50-55K Current roster is 2 days, 2 nights (12 hour shifts), then 5 days off, 2 days, 3 nights and then 4 days off, then 3 days, 2 nights with 4 days off etc etc.

12 hour shifts but that means more days off! Depot has parking, is close to Willesden Junction station and will be right next door to the new Old Oak Common train station / retail park once built.

Vacancy will be handled by Shorterm Group. Apply to them, I'll be happy to answer any private messages if I can.

The back of beyond
how many staff ect,is it working alone or with others

Unlikely to be working alone at a huge Depot like OOC, surely? The job advert clearly states you'd be responsible for all train movements so communicating with various parties like signallers, TOCs, etc. I'd assume you'd be based in an office at the Depot either on your own or with the planner manager, as described in the advert and possibly others.

If you're interested, why not apply? I'm sure all will be revealed if you get to interview.

That'll be the one.

Says start date July 22 unless its a post error

All I know is that they are VERY short staffed, maybe that's taking into account interview times and peoples notice periods? I would think they want people in ASAP.

There should be 6 people on the Depot Ops Control roster. Working alone in the control room but liaising with everyone else via radio and telephone.

At the moment yes, but once full staffed a new roster will come into play where each stretch of shifts will be the same ie 4 days then next week 4 or 5 nights etc.

is this role lone working , any breaks ect relevent time away from screens ect
Working in an office on your own, except when people pop in and out but that's not often. No real break away as trains arriving and departing although there are periods of up to an hour when it's quiet. You can take lots of time away from the screens but will need to keep checking in to make sure trains are arriving and departing on time.

Got an interview, fingers crossed
Good luck, hopefully you'll get to see the Control room while you're there. It's not shabby at all.
Brush up on your excel skills and there'll probably be a problem solving exercise around allocating trains to diagrams dependent on criteria such as cleaning and maintenance requirements.

It’s 12h shifts, with days into nights which isn’t for everyone.

It wasn’t described as “4 on 4 off” in the original post.

I believe once the Control room is up to full capacity there will be a roster change whereby all blocks of shifts will be the same i.e. 4 or 5 days and then 4 or 5 nights with a period of around 3-7 days inbetween.
