Ely tp Bristol and Exeter to Ely

I am doing this trip on either Thurs 10th March or Friday 11th March.

Plan is to leave on first train out of ELy and arrive at Bristol.

Spend 2.5 - 3 hours there and move onto Exter

Then leave Exeter to be back around 7pm

Looking for cheapest ticket options and suggestions re break of tickets. I reckon it will be some combination of returns and advance singles!

Any rover tickets in the area?

Seems to me like rather a long way to go for a day!

Advance singles Ely - Bristol, Bristol - Exeter and Exeter - Ely look like the best plan - plenty are available on the 10th March. Because you want to leave early that rules most return tickets out, and anyway the quickest route back from Exeter is via Castle Cary, not via Bristol. But it won't be cheap at the times you're asking for - at least £60 I think.
