EMR 170 Allocations

Been looking at having trip up the Matlock branch on Saturday and looking at RTT, it's almost exclusive ex-LM 170s...

Do EMR have any services they allocate certain batches of 170s to or is it just coincidence that every time I've checked RTT that the ex-LM 170s are on the Matlock branch?

Where do the ex-Scotrail units tend to end up?

Whenever I have noticed, the ex ScotRail units have been on Nottingham to Worksop or Skegness.. Matlock line does seem to be mainly 1705** at the moment.

With the 2 cars, there's only 4 ex TfW ones whereas there's 23 ex LM ones, which is why they show up more. I'd imagine the 3 car ones are separately diagrammed, instead of them all being one big common pool.

It's entirely coincidental, there's precisely 1 diagram which is booked 170/4 only for the 0547 Nottingham - Skegness etc as this covers the 2 trains that call at the 1 coach length Havenhouse platform.

For the rest they're all just allocated to 170 2 car or 170 3 car diagrams.

So, if I wanted to get an ex-Scotrail unit, where would be by best chance?

Seems to be a problem when 2x 2 car 170s are put on the Connect services with the Rail Gourmet Trolley only being able to serve 2 coaches, due to lack of gangway. I suppose because of how the units are diagrammed interchangeably, it's difficult to circuit two Hosts for it. Not good for those travelling from East Anglia up to the North West though, as so many do make substantial journeys on this route.

Quite a few of the Norwich/Nottingham-Liverpool services use the 3 car 170's...though a fair few recently tend to be the ex-tfw or ex-southern ones

Yes, it's definitely down to luck.

On the Crewe route the London Midland ones are most common. Occasionally you get an odd Scotland or Wales class 170. I prefer these 2 over the London Midland ones though.

You say that, but I had one of the ex Anglia /TfW ones back from Nottingham. Sat in the former first class area. Black tape was holding the armrests together.

1R52 0635 Nottingham to Liverpool Lime Street and the return 1L09 0951 Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich is a booked 6 car 170 diagram although today it was only one unit ex Scotrail 170423.
Also 1R70 1056 Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street and return 1L16 1651 Liverpool Lime Street to Nottingham are usually a pair of 2 car 170s. Today these were 170507 and 170509.

You didnt as I also was in the rear coach of 170201 on 1R52...for some reason it showed it allocated and during the today it was removed (RTT showed as both up to a point and just 423 after) then later it was showing again..not sure why it didnt show it for a period throughout the day though
