Officials 'hopeful' of deal to end train strikes (BBC)
The train drivers' union and the government are hopeful a deal can be struck to bring an end the long-running strike action, the BBC understands, as talks over pay are expected to take place on Wednesday.

The negotiations between representatives from Aslef and the Department for Transport will aim to resolve the pay dispute between drivers and train companies in England.
We (drivers) were tipped off there'd be some movement today - hopefully something will come of it, and not just more endless 'negotiations'!

An actual offer is supposed to be made today to both ASLEF and RMT. Lets see if it’s a worthwhile one…

Based on what Labour have done so far in regards to pay across different sectors, I expect something the unions will be happy with

We were told to expect an actual offer today in a message from ASLEF last week.

National dispute update: We met with representatives from the DfT this morning. We have now adjourned and hope to reconvene in due course.

I was expecting a text to say an offer had been made etc.

Where does this leave us now if no offer is made?

Might be reviewing the offer if it’s been made.

To be honest not the update i was hoping for, but hopefully some more positive news to come later. We’ve waited long enough and I think we are close to it being sorted.

I really hope so. Very disappointed by the latest correspondence. This needs to be resolved now

If no offer is forthcoming today then they will need to announce further days immediately. It makes a mockery of us as they said an offer would be received today.

Or perhaps they just need to go away based on the discussion and spend some time working out what can viably be offered.

I don't think more dates are in good faith until things have actually broken down, i.e. an unacceptable offer has been made or total stalemate.

No pay offer today, means new strike dates will announced very quickly (in my opinion!) us drivers were lead to believe an official offer was being put on the table
Today, but it seems that’s not happened
For whatever reason

The good faith would be gone if no offer is received today. I’m not sure why more time would be needed. Junior doctors received an offer 2/3 weeks of labour coming into power, this shows it can be done if willing to.

They’ve had multiple meetings now over the space of 3/4 weeks.

I’m not happy to wait any longer. 2 1/2 years has been long enough and I’m fed up.

The last update was essentially that. The government would go away and come back with an offer today. If they weren't expecting to have an offer ready, why make that promise?

The adjournment could be down to key staff availability. If they’re chucking up in the toilets or the kid/parent has decided to test how hard they can hit the deck, you’re not going to be having the meeting if they’re needed. With it being the summer holidays, the usual deputy might not even be in the country.

Am I missing something? The meeting has been adjourned, for all we know, that’s because they’re grabbing some lunch or deliberating over a deal that the DFT have offered? No point getting worked up and negative about it yet?

Was a promise made, or an indication?

Sometimes there are delays in business. Someone's gone off sick, or something else has come up, or something has been identified that's an issue.

An offer “should” be made next Tuesday now. Let’s see.

Probably best to give them chance then.

The rail industry is more complicated than the NHS.
For a start, the government isn't the employer, TOCs are.
There are also many different employment contracts, not just one size fits all.
I'd expect there will be a relatively generous pay offer, but with some productivity strings.

It’s hard not to think the powers that be are trying to mug us off a little bit, or at least taking advantage - for whatever reason, considering what they have offered other sectors.

Depends if 5.5% (or whatever it was) is considered as "generous"
But as we all know, it's not just about the pay so good luck to all if the "productivity" strings can be agreed upon

This. 100%.

"Temporary adjournment".

Talk about over reaction. Jeez.
