This report from the Barents Observer reports on a halt in rail transport between Kiruna and Narvik causing big challenges for Sweden’s largest mining company. It also highlights the sensitivity of poor infrastructure for NATO’s military reinforcement of northernmost Scandinavia.

Major disruption for Swedish mining company

Yes, it has taken a long time to repair the line. The winter has been harsh and very cold weather and large amounts of snow has made it rather complicated.

And just now I recieved a press release from Trafikverket stating that the line will open for freight trains on Tuesday next week. Passenger trains will have to wait a bit longer.
