Thats HD07

That's HD07, when the Guard keys in at the DVT door panel the lights go off. It's just one panel so obviously an electrical gremlin there as it doesn't happen when key on at any of the coaches.
It’s nice to see another in service. Hopefully it’ll be a small fix so it can be kept in service, too.

1V91’s unfortunately hit an animal on the line in gobowen area this morning. Rescue is on the way
That's very unfortunate....67 010 and HD04 set according to RTT. I wonder whether there are any Senedd members on board, as it's a Monday morning? If so, they may be having lunch on board, as well as breakfast. My wife and I are heading for Ludlow tomorrow to celebrate her birthday....so that will be one less 67/Mark 4 set in the mix if the damage requires depot repairs.

Gerald was not likely to be carrying Senedd members today - they are in recess from Monday July 17, back on Monday September 11.

Lucky them! I wonder whether there was an end-of-term party on board 1W96 on Friday 14th?

Seriously though, does anyone have any further details of this morning's incident?

It seems that the cow caught the battery isolation switch on the 67 and broke it, isolating the batteries on the loco in the process with no means of putting them back in.

Very unlucky....I suppose that would be a fairly major fitters' job to rectify it (probably on depot). 1Z99 to the rescue?

As I posted in the timetable thread, today's Gerald has become 5V91 Gobowen-Crewe-Cardiff and has reached Crewe, where I guess it might stay ;)

Yes, very. Its due an exam anyway so it'll get dropped off at ETD in Crewe for repairs and C exam all in one.

The spare is 82204. Hd08 (if it happens) will be 82220.
GC01 to 04 are HD04 to 07 in that order.

One or more of the industry data systems (TRUST, TOPS or whatever it is that Real Time Trains uses) seems to have got in a bit of a muddle concerning the 06:48 Cardiff Central to Holyhead. Today, Real Time Trains is showing it having
  • Standard only seating between Cardiff Central and Shrewsbury
  • First & standard seating from Shrewsbury onwards
  • Trolley service from Cardiff Central to Shrewsbury
  • Restaurant for First Class passengers from Shrewsbury
However, it doesn't indicate a change of stock at Shrewsbury in order for it to gain first class accomodation there. Instead, it is showing a pair of class 175s (010 and 112) through to Chester and then 197009 from Chester to Holyhead - quite a step down in quality rather than the step up to first class and a resturant suggested above.

I know this one is currently not booked for a mark 4 set, but since it is advertised as having first class and resturant service in TfW's May 2023 timetable booklet I thought this was as relevant a topic as any other to raise the matter in.

My experience of Mk4s is slight and was mostly in the 1990s when they were first introduced on the ECML.
The main feature I remember was the loud metallic squeal when you tried to use the seat-back tray tables.

I used an ex-GC set today (HD06) on 1230 Manchester-Crewe (1V42), and was much amused to find that despite two expensive upgrades, the trays still squeal, and just as loudly. You could tell when anybody in the half-carriage moved their trays. ;)
But at least the ride was comfortable, and 4 carriages is much better than the 2-car set offered on the 1130, or the 0-cars on the cancelled 1330*.

* seemingly the incoming service was cancelled at Hereford.

Only seems to be 1 MK4 set out today must of been issues overnight.
3 were supposed to be our today but HD01 had a faulty directional selector switch in the cab of the DVT at Crewe and 67008 had a faulty speedo at Canton. The Canton set should be back out on 1W96
Shame such a poor day as they'd been performing far better recently.

How many are out today? Some trains with no allocations yet on RTT. I can see 175103 is on 1V50, and 175009/010 are on a Holyhead diagram.

Isn’t HD04 still at Crewe following the animal incident, or was that just the loco?

Yes, 1W13, 1V39, 1W96 today.

HD04 should reenter service on 1V50, as long as it happens will all be in place for all 4 diagrams to recommence tomorrow
Hopefully it does re enter service tomorrow, it'll be my journey home tomorrow and first mk4 or loco hauled.

Didn't GNER replace the original 1990s seats as part of the 'Mallard' refurb? If they did, that's one set of squealing trays replaced by a different set of squealing trays!

It didn't swap at Crewe in the end, but HD02 stayed down in Cardiff instead of returning to Crewe so they're still in place for all 4 diagrams should still be able to restart today.
