Please note: I have been give permission by the moderators to post this.

FastJP is looking for an Operations Manager. This full time role is a great opportunity to join the team that powers the industry-leading split-ticketing engine and the most customisable journey planner on the market.

The job entails
  • Managing our fleet of AWS assets, including Linux servers, standard infrastructure servers like HAProxy, AWS databases and storage.
  • Working with our team of developers who produce C# and C code that deploys straight to AWS from GitLab.
  • Developing the infrastructure to find new ways of working, alongside our senior developer.
  • Helping to answer technical questions from our customers.
  • Manage and develop our monitoring, observability and logging systems (all built on standard tools).
  • Helping, as part of a team, to deal with any issues arising.
This role will allow you to join a team of rail enthusiasts who want to provide the best solution on the market, and who are motivated to find passengers the best deals. You’ll get to learn the data that we get which powers FastJP and have your say in the future of rail journey planning.

Please start a conversation with me if you’re interested and would like a chat. Ideally we’d like another rail enthusiast on the team, but past experience of rail is not necessary – just a willingness to learn.

Soo what kind of experience are you looking for ? It looks like a data scientist or data-related work .

It's not really a data related role. You'll be handling the data, but we already have code that processes it. There might come a time where we need to deal with faulty data, but there are other team members who can also help out there.

It's really more about someone who can manage an AWS environment, keep essential systems running and patched, help us to develop new and better ways of doing things and to be part of our decision making process.

Experience actually isn't essential. We're much more interested in getting someone who's right for the job, is enthusiastic and wants to learn. And we're happy to pay a good wage, and most of the time you'll be working from home and and able to set your own hours.

Some exposure to C# would be useful, or indeed any modern programming language. It's not a programming job at all, but there are always scripts and other things that need to be maintained.

Also, AWS and all of the associated systems trends to be quite command line focused, hence the Linux reference.

Ha. No, it's Amazon Web Services. That's probably the largest virtualisation system out there, allowing any manner of servers and services to run in the cloud.

Don't worry. I expect there's plenty of AWS warnings to keep you busy - just not the sort you're thinking of!
