Hi looking for some help. We leave Pescheria del Garda on 29th June and have 4 nights until our Eurostar back. I wanted to go to Annecy but I’m finding it difficult trying to use my coupons or fip cards, does anyone know if Annecy would be possible or am I best scrapping that and going back to Paris via Switzerland (that’s the route we are travelling outbound) or does anyone have any other ideas? I have coupons for Italy, Swiss, France, Germany & Austria. So close to just booking a flight home but I have my return eurostar booked!
Any help greatly appreciated thank you

Unfortunately FIP coupons are not valid on the international TGVs or Frecciarossas (FR) between Turin and Chambery which would be the obvious route to reach Annecy.

You could, however, take an EC service Milan to Geneva ( coupons valid but reservation + supplement required). From Geneva you can reach Annecy via Annemasse - the new x city line has made this much easier. Coupons valid.

Annecy to Paris is straightforward - through TGVs available. Coupon valid but reservation + supplement required.

Hi thanks so much for your reply, I might look at going via Geneva, with regards to booking the supplements on the EC service do you know if I can do that before I travel? I don’t know if I fancy just turning up and trying to book a seat when I’m in Italy!

Also I take it we’d need coupons for Italy and Switzerland but as it’s only me with the Swiss coupons would I just buy a ticket from the border crossing to Geneva for my family members? Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

'Man in Seat 61' has details on the 'FIP page' where you can make reservations before leaving the UK if you require. In Italy all the ticket offices can issue FIP tickets / reservations etc.

For your family members, yes you will require tickets from Brig to Geneva / Annemasse. It might be worth looking at what advance public fares are available Milan to Geneva as FIP tickets are only discounted off the full fare.

Bon Voyage!

Thank you for all your help, I think I am going to try and go via Geneva with the added complication of a bus replacement at Domodossola nothing is ever easy!
Thanks again!

You can avoid the RRB between Milan/Domo or Arona/Stresa by going Milan-Novara-Domo (all regional) or Milan-Locarno-Domo (regional then scenic Centovalli - IIRC from 40 years ago covered by Swiss "Private" coupon)

Thank you for this information it’s really helpful, this route looks doable with perhaps an overnight in Domo! Thanks again

The Centovalli route is mega-scenic but does take some time to do, as I am sure you will have seen already if you looked at the timetable.

There are a few hotels in Domo (although I have never stayed in them). Having got that close, I have generally gone just into Switzerland and stayed in Brig! Well, it is Switzerland... There used to be a really good small hotel (Bahnhof Hotel) about 15 min on up the classic Loetschberg route at Ausserberg, right next to the railway with great views across the mountains (it's about 300m above the Rhone Valley Floor).

Thank you for the recommendations for hotels I will have a look. I think I have the route sorted so Garda to Milan, there is a frecciarossa friends service and business class isn’t that much extra so considering booking that!

Then a regional train via Novara to either Domo or Brig then an overnight. Am I right in saying that Domo to Brig is covered by the Bls coupon and then I just have to purchase a half fare from brig to Geneva..? Thanks for everyone’s help so far

Yes Domo. to Brig is BLS - coupons valid for family members - Brig to Geneva is SBB - 50% discounted tickets required for family members.
