I'm on the northbound Sleeper to Fort William, approaching Spean Bridge.

Somewhat of a shock: the fire alarm went off. No sign of fire in the accessible cabin, so I hit the "call host" button. Poor host, she's new - and excellent - and this is her first "red banner".

Turns out a smoke sensor has gone off, under the carriage. Apparently this has happened previously when passing a stream train or a lineside fire, but this time it is because smoke is coming out the back of one of the engines.

We've been stopped for a while whilst the engine is inspected. Comment is at least there are two engines 8-)
