Anyone remember what classes of First Gen DMU ran on the Gospel Oak Barking line and when did they cease?
I believe it is something like this:
1960s to about 1968/1969
Class 113 Cravens Rolls Royce hydraulic transmission &
Class 112 Cravens Rolls Royce mechanical transmission, often 4 cars
1969-1984
Class 116 often 4 car with very mixed formations usually 3 motor cars
Occasionally a class 127 4 car
1983/4
Class 127s redundant from Bedpan, reduced to 3 car and eventually 2 car (both motor cars)
1984
Class 104 power twins mostly DMBS/DMBS
in the 80s (maybe it was early 90s) there was a spell when you would get 101s, 108s, 121s.
Then it settled on Class 115 power twins both DMBS for a short.
Finally class 117 power twins DMBS/DMS until replaced by class 150 late 90s
Quite a variety!
1988, still not toothpaste livery. but has got the NSE flash and blue destination blinds.16th July 1988 at Gospel Oak at 16.09...
Oh I thought services on that line were first dieselised in the late 50's.I believe it is something like this:

To my surprise, the last time I took an original dmu on the Goblin, journeys normally many years apart, it must have been about 1990, and it was one of the original Western Region Derby Class 116 suburban units, which just on its own was running out of Old Oak Common depot. Someone can probably give the car numbers.
I think that Network South East ran these services from Old Oak. I remember also that on the occasion of the Jean Michel Jarre concert in Victoria Dock (October 1988 I see), the North Woolwich line would have been, for once, quite overwhelmed, and of all substitutes a Pressed Steel 3-car set from Paddington services turned up at Custom House station, completely packed.
The Rolls Royce 127s weren’t allowed down the widened lines to moorgate so the Rolls Cravens units did that and Kentish Town to Barking until replaced by the 116s. The midland moorgate service was 116 to the end of dmu workingMy thought was that originally - when it ran from Kentish Town rather than Gospel Oak - it was (what became) class 127, from early 1960, as the (standard) dmu for the London end of the Midland line, which it was essentially then a part.
The Class 104s were originally based at Cricklewood, but then got reallocated to Old Oak Common - when it happened, they got Western Region Lxxx DMU set numbers. Can't remember when it was, must be late 80s sometime. Eventually the 104s disappeared and you got allsorts showing up. I had a 119 on it once.
