Greyhound Canada is ending all intercity bus service in the western Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
One cross-border route between Vancouver, BC and Seattle, Wa. will survive, operated from the US. Greyhound will retrench to the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

There are a handful of other small operators, but this leaves almost all of western Canada without intercity coach service. Good news, perhaps, for VIA Rail's Canadian, but that route doesn't compete with Greyhound on price, even in seated coach class.

[Greyhound Canada senior vice-president Stuart Kendrick] said 415 people will be out of work, and estimates the decision will impact roughly two million consumers.
The company blames a 41 per cent decline in ridership since 2010, persistent competition from subsidized national and inter-regional passenger transportation services, the growth of new low-cost airlines, regulatory constraints and the growth of car ownership.
