Well, maybe at the other side, where the door was not in use? hence allowing passengers to leave the train? Very minor quibble.

I appreciate what you're saying though. I've seen some pretty dull people on E-G, and cleanliness of some trains leaves much to be desired. As for the North Clydes, although they are my local line, I only ever use them if I absolutely have to. 320s are dirty, uncomfortable and have that annoying announcer. (I know it's the same lady, but she never seems to shut up).

And regarding older staff; the trolley man on the way up today was no more than 30 I would say, but turned out very well and gave exemplary customer service. Although, he may just be the exception.

And I don't think the 170s are in urgent need of refresh, but in the next few years would be nice. Let them get the 158s out the way first.

See my local line is the North Electrics! Great!

Staff seem to vary, some are ok others are not. Ive had very good 'newish' staff' before who have showed the company off well so...it may just be bad experienced. Its the ticket insepctors on the electrics which annoy me, they are either never there or are ignorant when they speak to you! In my cases. Ive even had one accuse my dad of fare dodging as he was asleep! So what did the ticket inspector do? they shouted at him and made a joke of him in front of the whole carriage!! Also they dont wear there FULL uniform which first provide them with!

Ok rant over, lol.

Yes the 158s are a necessity and the results from the refurb are great! Which I praise FSR for, even though they didnt pay for it!

North Electrics; staff are rather arrogant at times I must say. They tend to shout at Blairhill passengers who board without a ticket, even if the office is closed! (They seem to close it when they want a break). Sadly, this is my local station.

My biggest problem, however, with the NCEs is the 3+2 seating. Look at a full turbostar, all the seats are used and there's planty of standing space at the doors. On the 320s (designated high-denisty), fewer passengers get a seat because:

1) there's not enough room for people; remember not everyone is underweight
2) there're less rows of seats.

As a result of 1), about half the seats are unoccupied, which causes more standing passengers, which wastes space. 9/10 times, you cannot get 3 people into a row of 3 seats on a 320. End of.

PS, whilst the NCEs are technically my local line, it's not much further to the Whifflets for me. 156 clag, quieter train, comfier seats (at least if you get a FSR unit)... and you feel less like a farm animal hoing off to the slaughter.

I always go via the Whifflet line unless I'm travelling to Partick or beyond (eg to visit Glasgow Uni) or to change onto a service from GQS. And that's not terribly often, given that I always go to Edinburgh via Motherwell.

The turnaround times on many units has been cut back incredibly to try and cope with extra services. Thus a lot of EMU maintenance takes place between the peaks, so these units are cleaned in the middle of the day but the other units which are off depot from 5am til midnight with only 5-10 minute turnarounds. If FSr used some traveling cleaners / rubbish collectors it would be good. The TE on North Clyde servcies are good at collecting newspapers etc after the morning pea, but they need some rubbish collectors after the evening peak - they could work between Belgrove and Hyndland on North Clyde, and PGS-GLC on the ayrshire ones.

I'd base them at Airdrie. More than enough time for the Balloch trains, and they can travel to Drumgelloch (which, let's face it, isn't exactly very busy, so they can use this ti their advantage). For t'other trains through to High Street, have them board at High Street and stay on as the train runs to Shettleston Siding and back.

Of course, these'd supplement cleaners at Helensburgh, Dalmuir and Milngavie.

The idea of cleaners boarding the train at GLQ - HLC/Balloch had been suggested to FSR, last May. Still nothing has been done.
