Morning all.

I know there has been numerous topics raised on this, but in this instance, I'm not the one that needs convincing.

Planning to travel Chapel en le Frith to St Bees to start the Coast to Coast walk. Planning singles to Disley or New Mills Newtown then advanced fares from Disley/New Mills Newtown, NMN requires walking to NM Central to get the advanced ticket. Anyway, £15.75 for two adults, one Y-P from either of those stations standard class but its only £27.70 first class, yes that's cheap. At just over a tenner for myself, I'd go first class advance for that price.

My Dad needs convincing, bearing in mind we'll be carrying 2 huge rucksacks and were planning to travel mid-afternoon, is first class going to be any better for space or is it going to be quiet in standard on the 1416 to Carlisle from Manchester? Will it be worth paying the extra £12 or so? What sort of complimentary food or drink are we likely to get?

Thanks

Tom

This service is likely to be busy between Manchester and Preston
The trolley is normally very near to First Class at this point, as the staff know at this point getting through the train is difficult, plus there may be a complete change

You will probably be offered a free drink and crisps/biscuits between Manchester and Preston
Between Preston and Carlise you should additionally be offered a light snack

I never mentioned were travelling on July 19th, which is a Tuesday. I'd imagine July is going to be quite busy, I hate travelling on 185s when they are packed full.
